Log Reader Agent Lacks A Required Privilege
May 12, 2006I'm using our development ID to set up peer-to-peer replication. I am following the steps outlined in the BOL using SQL Studio 2005. When I created the initial publication, I read the section on permissions and assigned the development login ID db_owner. Indeed, to eliminate any possible issues (I thought), I gave it db_datareader, db_datawriter, and all the db admin rights and made very sure the db_denydatareader and db_denydatawriter roles were not checked. I did this through the Logins section of the Security folder and applied the same rights to both the distribution and the publication database. Nevertheless, when I run the LogReader agent job, it fails with the message for step 2 that:
Executed as user: ourdomsqldev. A required privilege is not held by the client. The step failed.
The dev ID essentially has sa rights to the server and all the databases. It is also a domain authenticated ID. Any ideas what's causing this problem? I really need to get the replication going reliably before the weekend is out.
Thanks.
Randy

Not Able To 'Step Into' The Procedure Code In SQL Debugger From Client Machine.
Jul 25, 2003Hi,
I am working on SQL-Server 2000 (developer edition) with SP3 on Win 2000 and Clients are Win98/Win XP.
I am not able to 'Step Into' my SQL Procedure code in Debug mode, executed from Query Analyzer from a client machine. As soon as I select the 'Execute' button after inserting all the parameters value, the whole procedure gets executed. But I'm able to do the same (i.e 'step into') from the Server itself.
Do I need any additional configuration settings in the client machine ??
I shall be greatful if anyone can help me to solve the above problem.
Thanx in advance.

Help Required To Find Out When A Cluster Has Failed Over.
Oct 1, 2001I am writing a little systems monitoring application to send SMS
messages to my mobile phone. For example when disk space reaches a
certain maount my program will raise an alert that fires a VB app,
that sends a SMS message directly to my mobile.
We operate an active/active cluster (SQL7 NT4) and I want to be informed
when one of the clusters fails over.
I have managed to find out when the clusters are 'off-line' by reading
the 'PersistentState' variable from the registry as follows:
DECLARE @LIVE_REPonV1 varchar(8000)
EXEC master.xp_regread
@rootkey='HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE',
@key='ClusterGroupsd42a2a2d-f6a5-11d4-a584-00508bdfa98a',
@value_name='PersistentState',
@value= @LIVE_REPonV1 OUTPUT
SELECT convert(varbinary,@LIVE_REPonV1)
this has a value of 0x01000000 for on-line and 0x00000000 for
off-line.
However, after scanning the registry I cannot find a registry variable
that resembles a 'failed-over' status.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Execute Package Results Different To Step By Step Execution - Uses Raw File
Jan 31, 2007I have a package that has multiple data flow tasks. At the end of a task, key data is written into a raw file (file name stored in a variable) that is used as a data source for the next task. Each task requires a success from the preceding task.
Here's the rub:
If I execute the entire package, the results of the package (number of records of certain tasks) differs significantly from when I execute each step in the package in turn (many more records e.g. 5 vs 350).
I get the feeling that the Raw file is read into memory before it is flushed by the previous task, or that the next task begins preparation tasks too early.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am running on Server 2003 64 (although the same thing happens when deployed on a Server 2003 32 machine)
Thanks

Step-by-step Deployment Of Single-user Database App?
Mar 2, 2008Hi!
I hope the answer is as simple as the question -- but after reading all the documentation I could find (understand?) and a lot of posts here, I'm no closer to achieving the goal.
I have a Visual C# app, DAYTRACKER, developed in VS2005. It uses a database with several tables constructed using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
I want to deploy the app plus the database plus SQL Express to another machine, to be used by a single user (the administrator) with no need for network connectivity of any kind.
What I have so far is:
1. The application is successfully deployed from a CD-ROM, having used the Publish process within VS2005, and opens on the new machine -- without database connectivity, however.
2. SQL Express is successfully deployed (it deployed as a 'prerequisite' when I went through the Publish process in VS2005)
3. I manually copied the database's .mdf and .mdl files, using SQL Server Managers 'Copy Database' function, then transferred the copies to the new machine into the .MSSQL.1MSSQLdata folder (where they appear along with the master.mdg, mastlog.ldf etc files)
Now, the DAYTRACKER application's DAYTRACKERConnectionString under 'Settings' in the VS2005 studio reads 'Data Source=DELL3;Initial Catalog=DayTracker;Integrated Security=True' (which are the appropriate parameters for the machine, DELL3, on which I wrote the program.)
The problem, of course, is that SQL Express on the new machine doesn't connect the application to the database. When I go to the 'SQL Server Configuration Manager' and go to the 'SQL Server 2005 Services' and double-click on the 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)' icon (the service is running) and the user is logged on using 'Local System Account'. Under the 'Service' tab the Host Name is 'MUSIC' (which is the name of the new machine I've installed the app onto -- which of course is not the name - DELL3 - that the app's connection string is expecting). Under the 'Advanced' tab, I've tried correcting the name of the Startup Parameters default .mdf and .mdl entries to .DayTracker.mdf and .DayTracker_log.mdl, but the server won't start up after I make the changes.
What I'm hoping for: a step-by-step way of doing this type of deployment, preferable getting it all onto one CD-ROM, and installing it on the new machine so that it all works seamlessly from the start, not requiring any 'tweaking' of the SQLServer Express settings by the end-user.
But I'll take pretty much anything that fixes the specific db connectivity problem I've described.
Thank you very much.

Client EM Produce OS Failed Login Errors
Jul 23, 2005hi all, have anyone else met with the following problem.we've got a SQL2000SP3a on a 2 active-active node clusters of W2K3,this cluster in using AD.I've found that whenever I use Enterprise Manager on my local computerto register the above instance, it will constantly produce 'Failedlogin for <Domain><DomainUser>' errors in the Windows Security Log ofthe database server machine. There's no failed login in the SQL errorlog and I can work normally with the Enterprise Manager. The OS failedlogins error are gone once I un-register the instance from myEnterprise Manager.Does anyone know or met with this before?
Client Failover Takes 1 To 3 Minutes After Database Has Failed Over
May 12, 2008We are having problems getting the ADO.NET client to failover in a timely manner in a web application. Here's what happens:
1) Database fails over in 3 to 5 seconds
2) Clients attempt to login to primary and receive SQL server not available errors
3) The clients slowly start to connect and succeed without errorson the secondary.
4) We are still see SQL Server login errors on the primary, even after the failover
5) When we failback to the primary, it all happens within a few seconds (no problems)
If we recycle IIS, this problem goes away
Here's what we have tried
1) Turning off connection pooling (has no effect). We also can see the connections get killed on the primary server
2) Applying this hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944099)
And yes, we are running a script to sync up the SIDS so that doesn't appear to be a problem. What seems to be happening is the primary server is getting stuck in the ADO.NET application memory. The problem is we don't know how to fix it.
BTW, our hardware is SQL Server 2005, Windows Server 2003, .NET 2.0 (and .NET 3.5)
Let me know if you need additional information. Thanks in advance
Login Failed For User 'sa'. [CLIENT: &&<local Machine&&>]
Jan 23, 2008One of my co-worker changed the sa password today. After that we are getting this error. The SA account gets locked every time. Even within few seconds of unlocking the SA account, it gets locked again. Error message is not clear as what session still using old password and causing the SA account to get locked? Any of our application does not use SA user to connect to databases. We have Tivoli installed on the same system and the GUI of tivoli has the correct password.

Login Failed For User 'domainuser' Using .NET SQL Native Client
Mar 18, 2008On computer 1, I am programming a C# utility to connect to a SQL 2005 SP2 Database. Here is the connection string.
Server=serverName;Database=database;User Id=DOMAIN/DomainAccount;Password=password;
I am using Visual Studio 2005 with .NET 2.0.
I have logged into Computer 1 with a different account. When I run the utility, I get a login failed exception. Here is the error I get from SQL 2005.
Login failed for user 'DOMAIN/DomainAccount'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx].
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 6.
xxx are filled with the valid IP address of the computer I am running the utility from.
When I log into the computer 2 with the same domain account, it runs with success.
Login succeeded for user 'DOMAIN/DomainAccount'. Connection: trusted. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
When I put Trusted_Connection=True; in the connection string, it connects as me and not the domain user I want to connect to.
When I put Integrated Security=SSPI; in the connection string, it does the same thing.

Set Up Failed SQL Native Client &&<sqlncli.msi&&> - SQL 2005 Express
Dec 18, 2007I have .NET Framework 2.0 and Visual studio 2005 installed on my machine. I also have SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition installed with Service Pack 4.
When I try to install SQL Server 2005 express, I get an error when the setup tries to install SQL Native Client. I have read many forums, but couldnt find a resolution. I can not see SQL Native Client in my Add Remove Programs either.
I tried to unzip the SQLEXPR.exe into a temp folder and when I right click sqlncli.msi and say Repair or Uninstall. It says 'This action is valid for products that are currently installed.'
When i try to run the sqlncli.msi file .i get an error message saying 'Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exisits on the machine. To proceed uninstall the higher version and then run Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup'
Please help as I am unable to install SQL Server 2005 Express..

How To Read An Database Table Step By Step (with ADO)
May 19, 2008Hi,
I have to transport a big database table and can't read it at once with 'select * from table' because the table is bigger than my system memory.
Is there a way to read the table step by step? I thought it was possible with ADO and his serverside cursors but I don't now how. I need an 'universal' solution that works on SQL Server 2000/2005, MySQL and Oracle.

harry

Enabling T-SQL Debugger (SQL2000) - Step Into, Step Over Etc
Dec 5, 2007Connecting to a networked SQL Server Box from my local machine
Open Query Analyzer from Start menu, logging in using sa account.
from the object browser i select my stored procedure (WEA_InsertClaim) - right click and select Debug.
i am prompted to enter the parameter values, which i do, auto rollback checkbox is checked - click Execute.
T-SQL Debugger opens and runs through the stored procedure.
but only buttons enabled are the 'Go', 'Toggle Breakpoint', 'Clear All Breakpoints'
so i can set breakpoints etc. but when i select Go it will not stop at the breakpoints it just runs through the stored procedure from start to finish. giving the correct return code as its output
is there something i need to enable in order to make it stop at breakpoints??
Cheers,
